Laurel, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol has arrested a suspect in connection with four homicides that occurred in Laurel early Thursday morning. The arrest occurred early Friday morning.
NSP will hold a media availability this morning (Friday) at 9:30 a.m. in Laurel to release information regarding the arrest. The news conference will be held at the Laurel Fire Station, at Highway 20 and 4th street in Laurel.
The news conference will be streamed live on the Nebraska State Patrol Facebook page.
Rural Radio Network previously reported, the State Patrol is investigating two fires at houses in Laurel that left 4 people dead early Thursday morning.
Nebraska State Patrol Colonel John Bolduc spoke at a news conference Thursday afternoon, and said that just after 3:00 a.m. Cedar County 911 received a phone call about an explosion at a residence at 209 Elm Street near Laurel.
Fire Crews responded and found a person dead inside.
The Laurel Police Department, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, and Nebraska State Patrol all responded to the scene.
While investigators were on the scene of the first residence, a second fire was reported a few blocks away at 503 Elm Street where 3 people were found dead.
Just after the second fire was reported, Law Enforcement received a report that a Silver Sedan was seen leaving town Westbound on Highway 20. The driver is being described as a black male who may have picked up a passenger before leaving town.
Accelerants are believed to have possibly been used in the fires.
The suspect or suspects could have potentially been burned.
Foul play is suspected in the deaths.
The identities of those involved are not being released at this time..
