Funeral Services for AJ Weatherwax will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Wes Hafner officiating. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford.

Alan Jerry “AJ” Weatherwax, 18 years of age, of Oxford, died unexpectedly, on a farm south of Oxford, on March 22, 2021.  AJ was born on August 18, 2002, the eldest of four children, born to David and Tricia (Lueking) Weatherwax.  He was baptized on September 22, 2002, and confirmed on June 19, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.  AJ received his primary education from Southern Valley Elementary and attended Southern Valley High School.

AJ was active with football, wrestling, FFA, youth group, trap shooting and 4H.  He was planning to graduate in May and attend NCK Technical College in Hays, Kansas in the fall of 2021.

AJ enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends.  He had a special bond with his dad working on the farm.  AJ had a huge heart and was known for his kindness.  He was a loving son and great big brother.  He always helped his brother and sister with anything and was training them to work on the farm.  He enjoyed meeting new people and never knew a stranger.  AJ gave hugs freely and back rubs to those most important to him.  He always had a nickname that was trending.  The most recent were, “Willy” and “Rooster”.  AJ and Tate also had special nicknames for each other that changed by the day.

AJ was preceded in death by: his sister, Macy Ann Weatherwax on July 18, 2006; his grandfather, Stuart “Roy” Weatherwax in 2018; great-grandparents:  Glen and Betty Cowan; Floyd and Marie Murdoch; and Bernard and Gladys Lueking.

AJ is survived by:  his parents:  David and Tricia Weatherwax; brother, Tate Weatherwax; and sister, Ellie Weatherwax, all of Oxford; paternal grandmother, Kathy Weatherwax of Oxford; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Carolyn Lueking of Oxford; two aunts:  Emily Weatherwax of Holdrege; and Laurie Nelson and her husband, David of Holdrege; one uncle, Dr. Phillip Lueking of Holdrege; cousins:  Zoe Weatherwax; Abbie McDermott and her husband, Jake; Sydney, Alivia, and Lainey Nelson; Madden Lueking; and Stella Lennemann; along with many extended family members in the Weatherwax, Murdoch, and Lueking families.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford, with the family greeting from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in AJ’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
