FOUR-year-old Cash Gernon was found dead after being abducted from his home on May 16, 2021.  

The crime was allegedly committed by 18-year-old Darriynn Brown.

Brown, 18, and is being held on charges of kidnapping and burglary, but police said more charges are likely “pending results from a forensic analysis.”

Authorities have not confirmed how Sherrod identified the suspect or Brown’s relationship to Cash.

According to WFAA, Brown wore an ankle monitoring bracelet for a prior charge.

“Through the hard work of the men and women of the Dallas Police Department, this criminal was brought to justice, and it would not have been possible without the Dallas FBI Evidence Response Team and the public’s assistance,” police said in a statement.

The boy had multiple wounds from “an edged weapon,” according to The Dallas Morning News.

“We are shocked, we are very angry about what has happened to this small child,” Martinez said, describing the boy’s death as “violent.”

    Little Cash’s body was found by a jogger on a residential street during the early morning hours of May 15, in the Mountain Creek area of Dallas, Texas.

    Officers found the boy when they responded to a 911 call at about 7am on May 15, according to police spokesman Albert Martinez.

    The boy had multiple wounds from “an edged weapon,” according to The Dallas Morning News.

    Antwainese Square, 39, told the Morning News she was jogging at about 6.30am when she saw what she thought was a dog lying in the road but when she got closer she saw the boy’s arms and legs.

  • WHAT DID CASH’S BIOLOGICAL MOTHER SAY?

    Cash’s biological mother believed that the little boy and his twin brother, Carter, were with their dad and did not know that they were left with Sherrod, a police spokesperson said.

    The birth mom and grandmother were looking for the pair and both women since been reunited with Cash’s brother.

    Monica Sherrod, the ex-girlfriend of Cash’s dad, called cops shortly before 11am to report Cash as missing – but his body had been found hours before.

    She added that there is surveillance footage of the incident, which has not yet been released by police.

    According to an affidavit, obtained by the Morning News, Sherrod watched the video with cops and identified the suspect.

    Monica Sherrod, the caretaker of Cash Gernon at his time of death, said she told Brown off a few days before the kidnapping.

    “I told him, ‘Don’t come back around my kids,'” she said. “I was out grocery shopping when he was here. I’d left the twins with my boys and daughter.”

    Sherrod, who’s the mom of four children, said she has been taking care of the two Gernon twins after her ex-boyfriend, Trevor Gernon, 31, moved into her home and March and left them.

    Footage pulled from surveillance cameras installed in the six-bedroom Florina Parkway home shows after Cash was snatched from his bed, the culprit returned for his twin brother, Carter.

    The video shows a man donning hooded attire and a backpack entering the bedroom.

    Cops say Brown plucked Cash while he was sleeping next to his twin.

    “That’s the time that he took Cash,” Monica Sherrod said. “And he came back for Carter. I can’t really watch it.”

  • ANTS CRAWLED OVER THE FEET OF LITTLE CASH’S BODY

    A jogger who stumbled on Cash’s stabbed body initially thought he was a dead dog, until she saw ants crawling over his feet.

    Cops confirmed the body Square found was 4-year-old Cash Gernon.

    Cash had suffered multiple wounds from “an edged weapon” and wearing only shorts when he was ditched on the road. 

    Police have said his death was a homicide.

    Monica Sherrod, 35, the Texas mom who took care of little Cash Gernon, told a reporter: “I just couldn’t face this before, the pain is so deep.”

    Sherrod was watching four-year-old twins Cash and Carter Gernon on Saturday when a suspect, identified by police as 18-year-old Darriynn Brown, barged into the Dallas home and abducted the tot before he was found dead on a Dallas street.

    “I loved those boys. They were not even my biological boys. I brought them into my home. I had made this room for them,” Sherrod told the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

  • DARRIYNN BROWN’S MOTHER SAID HE WAS HOME ALL WEEKEND

    A woman at Darriynn Brown’s address, who identified herself as Mimi Brown, Darriynn Brown’s mother, told The Dallas Morning News her son was home all weekend and could not have kidnapped the boy.

    “That’s not right at all,” the woman told the outlet.

    “I know my son is traumatized. I know he’s scared, because I’m scared.”

    Mimi said her son is a patient of Metrocare Services, which provides mental health care to children and adults.

    She said he has several young cousins that he helps take care of and wouldn’t have hurt Cash.

    Police found Cash’s body dumped in a southwest Dallas street before arrested Brown in connection with the tot’s murder.

    Police say the twin looked like to have suffered “multiple wounds” as a result of an “edged weapon.”

    Authorities charged Brown with kidnapping and theft. He is held on $750,000.

    Monica Sherrod said Brown, a family acquaintance, was seen breaking into a rear door to enter her home in the early morning hours.

    “The kidnapper broke in through that door right there. The garage doesn’t latch,” Sherrod said.

    “He came in and broke the connecting door into the home. We are on the other side of the house, we didn’t hear anything,” she continued. “We were all sleeping.”

    The Dallas Morning News reported that the suspect lives with his parents “who provide for him financially.”

    The address, which is provided in court records, is situated just a half mile from where the child’s body was discovered.

    According to Heavy, Brown’s mother alleged that he was “framed” and said her son “is a patient of Metrocare Services, which provides mental health care to children and adults.”

    It is unclear if Brown was receiving medical treatment prior to getting arrested.

    The motive for Gernon’s reported abduction by Brown is unclear.

    He was identified following the release of CCTV footage that shows a man snatching the 4-year-old in the middle of the night.

    A second clip also shows how the man returned to the house hours later before leaving empty-handed.

    How Sherrod identified the suspect or Brown’s relationship to Cash is also unclear.

    After being formally charged with kidnapping and burglary, Brown was held on Monday in lieu of $1.5 million bail. 

    Child abuse detectives found the 18-year-old Brown at his home – a half-mile from where Cash’s body was found – and took him into custody. 

    More charges are expected to be brought once investigators complete the forensic lab work.

    Guardian of the murdered four-year-old, Monica Sherrod, claimed that Darriynn Brown visited the house two days earlier while she was out.

    It was revealed on Wednesday that Brown had visited the family home while Sherrod was out grocery shopping two days prior.

    She returned to her home in Mountain Creek, Dallas, and found Brown spending time with Cash.

    The unannounced visit and playtime with her young son irritated Sherrod.

    The alleged kidnapping killer was an acquaintance to one of her sons.

    “I told him, ‘Don’t come back around my kids. I don’t want you,’” she told the Daily Mail.

    In the footage obtained by DailyMail.com, Brown, 18, can be seen returning to the bedroom before reaching down and touching the boy.

    After a few seconds of wandering around the room, it looks as though Brown is disturbed by a sound and then flees the room, leaving the boy unharmed in his cot.
