ELKHORN (July 21, 2021) – It was an 18-hole coronation on Wednesday at The Club at Indian Creek in Elkhorn, as Aurora’s Danica Badura grew her lead and cruised to win the 47th Nebraska Women’s Amateur Championship for her second-straight title.
On a day when only six players in the championship division broke 80, Badura put together a 75 (+3) to secure an eight-stroke win with a 221 (+5) total. It’s back-to-back titles for the University of South Dakota golfer, who won her first title last year by two strokes. She’s the 11th player to win multiple Nebraska Women’s Amateur titles.
Badura was back to her steady self during the Final Round, making par on the first five holes. She finished the front nine with a couple bogeys to turn in 38 (+2), but her lead swelled to five and soon would continue to grow.
Badura’s only birdie of the day came on the par-4 12th, and it pushed her lead to eight strokes over Omaha’ss Kaitlyn Hanna. Hanna made birdies on Nos. 7 and 13, but it was a double-bogey on No. 10, followed by a bogey on No. 11 that kept her from catching the leader.
There was only one more blemish on Badura’s card, as she bogeyed the par-4 15th. The rest were pars for Badura though, as she cruised in with a back nine 37 (+1) for the win.
Hanna finished in a tie for runner-up honors with two others at 229 (+13). She posted a final round 77 (+5), while Papillion’s Sydney Taake shot a 79 (+7) to match her. Omaha Maverick golfer Mandi Granato posted the best round of the day by five strokes to also tie for runner-up honors. Granato’s 70 (-2) was only the third round under-par for the championship. Hanna and Taake also tied for Low Junior honors.
Wahoo’s Lindsey Thiele finished fifth at 235 (+19), while her younger sister, Lauren Thiele, tied for sixth at 240 (+24) along with Omaha’s Julia Karmazin. Karsen Morrison of North Platte was eighth at 242 (+26), Emily Karmazin of Omaha was ninth at 245 (+29) and Emily Krzyzanowski of Scottsbluff rounded out the top 10 with a 246 (+30) total.
