Cozad outlasts Lexington for five set victory

COZAD – In a five set thriller, it was Cozad who came away with their first victory of the season defeating Lexington Tuesday night. After Lexington won the first set, it was the Haymakers who settled in and won 15-25, 25-19, 25-18, 17-25, 15-9.

The Minutemaids rallied in the first set to win convincingly, but Cozad regrouped behind strong serving and great defense to win the second and third sets. Lexington stuck around after strong attacking from their middle and outside hitters. The fifth set was once again dominated by strong serving and defense from Cozad to propel them to the victory.

Cozad was led by Blair Brennan from the service line where she dropped in seven aces including five in the third set. Megan Dyer led the team with nine kills while Kaylee Revelo chipped in eight kills. Freshman Lucha Olvera had a balanced night with four kills and four ace serves, including two in the final set. In the losing effort, three Minutemaids finished with nine kills; Laikyn Seim, Reese Kuecker and Sierra Werger.

With the win, Cozad equaled their total win amount from last season and improved to 1-1. Lexington slipped to 0-3.
