Grandson suspected in Holdrege theft

An 18-year-old Holdrege man was arrested Monday on a Phelps County warrant for Abuse of  Vulnerable Adult, Theft by Unlawful Taking $1,500-4,999 and Unauthorized Use of a Financial Transaction Device/$500-1,500.

A Holdrege Police Department investigation began late July into a possible theft from a Holdrege man.  A financial adviser of the man said the man had purchased a lawn mower in April 2022, costing $3,529.93.  The adviser said the man had been very happy with the purchase but sounded upset and distraught when the man contacted the adviser.  He reported the zero-turn lawn mower to be missing.  He suspected his grandson had sold the lawn mower while he was in the hospital between July 15 to July 18, 2022.  The investigation led to the interview of James S. Pazdernik who admitted to the officer that he had sold the mower to a friend for $1,500.

The financial adviser also reported to the Holdrege Police investigator that they suspected the grandson had spent money from the man’s account over the amount of money that the man had allowed.  Bond for Pazdernik was initially set at $25,000.  A court hearing had not been set.
