ELWOOD- It was a dominating performance for the Hi-Line Bulls as they hosted the Arapahoe Warriors in the first round of the D1 playoffs. After a quick first quarter, the Bulls dominated throughout and won 52-16.
Now, the first quarter did start positively for the Warriors. The had a lengthy five and a half minute possession, but couldn’t take advantage and ended up punting in their own territory. That was the story of the first half for Arapahoe, lengthy possessions, but no points. Hi-Line was able to take advantage though, scoring on all of their possessions in the first half. There were a total of six first half possessions between the two teams, and Hi-Line led it 22-0 at half.
The domination continued throughout the game. At one point, it did look like Arapahoe might start to work back into it after a twelve yard rushing touchdown by sophomore Grayson Koller to cut the lead to 30-8. However, the Warriors just could not stop the high powered offense of Hi-Line. There were a total of 30 points scored in the fourth quarter alone, Hi-Line with 22 of them, and the Bulls kept the Warriors at distance to win 52-16.
Arapahoe went for 52 plays and 174 yards of offense. Junior Rafe Hill had 93 yards on the ground along with a touchdown. For Hi-Line, they ran 38 plays for 318 yards of offense. Sophomore quarterback Zach Whittaker threw for 87 yards and one touchdown, and also ran for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Ryker Evans had 88 yards on the ground and three total touchdowns.
Arapahoe finishes the year at 4-5, and will rely on a strong sophomore class next season. Hi-Line improves to 8-1 and will play next Friday, as the seeding was changed for the second round. Hi-Line is now the nine seed and will be on the road at Elmwood-Murdock for round two of the playoffs.
