Ballot Initiative 432 passed as Nebraskans voted to amend the state constitution to require valid photo identification in order to vote and authorize the state legislature to pass laws to specify the photo identification requirements.
“35 out of 50 states already have a voter ID requirement in place and I think its common sense election security to ask voters to prove you are who you say your are before undertaking your most important civic duty,” says Senator Julie Slama.
Slama adds, for those voters who do not have photo identification, they are looking into a free photo ID that can be used only for voting. She says this plan has already been shown to the Secretary of State’s Office, but has been included in almost every voter ID bill that has been brought to the State of Nebraska in the last almost 15 years.
