LOOMIS- The Loomis Wolves opened up the 2022-2023 campaign at home on Friday hosting the Overton Eagles, who had played the night previous. The Overton Eagles girls won 53-29 to improve to 2-0, while the Overton boys fell to Loomis 67-43 to give the Wolves a 1-0 start to the season.
In the girls game, it was Overton from start to finish. The Eagles came out of the gate firing, scoring 16 points in the first quarter. After a fast and high scoring first quarter, Overton only scored 9 points in the second, but held Loomis to a total of 2 points. The Eagles continued to just keep Loomis well at arms reach, outscoring them 28-19 in the second half. It was a very consistent game, and the Eagles improved to 2-0.
Junior Natalie Wood led the way for Overton, scoring 13 points and junior JoLee Ryan added 12 points as well. Junior Carly Stewart scored 12 points to lead the way for Loomis, but no other player had more than 6 total points.

In the boys game, Loomis used a high powered first quarter and offensive performance to win big over Overton. Loomis scored 22 points in the first quarter to get things rolling, outscoring the Eagles 22-9. Sophomore Tyson Essex scored 8 points in the first alone, and senior Wes Trompke scored 7 in the quarter as well. In the second, it was much more low scoring, with Loomis outscoring Overton 9-8. Freshman Eli Luther knocked down two threes for Overton to keep the game in arms reach, with Loomis leading 31-17 at the half.
Both teams got to their offensive ways in the third though, with Loomis barely outscoring Overton 15-14 in the quarter. Junior Cale Nelson scored 10 points in the third for the Wolves, helping stop any Eagle run. Loomis used the fourth to pull away, outscoring Overton 21-12. Trompke scored 9 in the quarter to help the Eagles win 67-43.
Luther led the way for Overton with 14 points and junior Noah Lees added 10. For Loomis, Nelson led the way with 19 points, Trompke had 16 points, and Essex finished with 10.

Both Loomis teams will be back in action December 3rd against SEM, while the Overton girls will play Gibbon on December 6th, and the Overton boys will play Axtell December 9th.
