Overton and Amherst advance to FKC Finals

KEARNEY – The Overton Eagles swept their way past Axtell and Amherst survived a close match with S-E-M to win in four sets to both advance to the Fort Kearney Conference volleyball championship match on Thursday.

In the first semifinal match, Amherst endured a four set battle with the Mustangs and won 25-13, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-22. The Broncos relied on their experience and lethal offensive attack to pull through. Hannah Herrick paced Amherst throughout the match and finished with a game high 21 kills and six ace serves. They also served well, finishing with 17 ace serves that helped push them past S-E-M. Saryn Prickett finished with 11 kills for the Broncos. Katy Prickett served five aces, had eight kills and 34 assists. In the loss, S-E-M committed 19 errors. Taryn Arbuthnot led the team with 13 kills.

RRN/Amherst vs. S-E-M

Overton nearly led from start to finish over Axtell in the other semifinal, winning 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19. The Eagles hit .386 as a team only committed five errors in the win. JoLee Ryan led her team with 14 kills while Natalie Wood swatted 13 kills and Adysen McCarter chipped in nine kills. In the loss, Lexie Eckhoff led Axtell with 10 kills. Jenna Marsh blocked five shots, finished with three kills and two ace serves.

Overton will try to defend their FKC championship against Amherst Thursday at 7:30pm from Kearney High School. The consolation match will pit S-E-M against Axtell at 6pm also at Kearney High. Listen to both matches on 880 AM, 106.9FM Kearney and
