Buffalo County, Nebraska — The pilot of a small plane was uninjured when he landed the craft on a county road northwest of Kearney Friday afternoon.
The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly before 4 p.m. Friday of an airplane on a county road south of 92nd St. and N Ave.
Preliminary information indicates that a 52-year-old Smithfield, Ne. man reported mechanical issues with the single-engine Piper airplane. The airplane was landed on the county road, resulting in some damage to the airplane.
The pilot was not injured and there were no other occupants. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were contacted. The Buffalo County Highway department assisted the Sheriff’s Office. The road was closed for approximately 3 hours.
