Potential for irrigation load control on Sunday

Dawson Public Power District wants irrigators in their load management program to be aware that Sunday may be a control day. While most of the control periods occur Monday through Saturday, Sundays are part of the normal program. Announcements about Sunday load control will be made on KRVN 880 AM, through Twitter, email and text messages.

Irrigation load management helps utilities control costs, based on electric loads, generation resources and market prices. Nebraska Public Power District tells wholesale customers like Dawson PPD when load control is needed. The utility turns off irrigation wells and pivots enrolled in load management during certain times of the day.

Farmers select their electric rates based on the number of days they participate in load management. The lowest rates apply to irrigation services that are enrolled in anytime control. Dawson PPD customers have been participating in the load management program for over 40 years.
