Ronald L. “Ron” Hogeland, 71 years of age, of Orleans, passed away, on August 19th, 2022, at Harlan County Health Systems in Alma, Nebraska. Ron was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on April 2, 1951, the fourth of seven children, born to John and Edith (Schofield) Hogeland. He received his education from Alma Public School and graduated with the class of 1969. He attended Chadron State College for one year and then proceeded to follow his hopes and dreams by moving home.

Following his education and moving home Ron worked at many different places while using all of his talents. After his father, John, suffered a heart attack, Ron agreed to return to the family business at Hogeland’s Market. During his time there, he also purchased Don’s Liquor in Orleans which became known as Paddington’s Station. Ron then continued his passion at Hogeland’s Market where he worked for nearly 40 years before retiring.

In 1972 Ron married Pat Schwenke and to this union 2 children were born: Trevor Lee and Lilian Diana Hogeland. The marriage later ended in divorce. Ron was then united in marriage to Rhonda Graff on January 15th, 1995 and to this union Ron was blessed with 2 children, Hennessey Cherry-Ann and Grace Elizabeth Hogeland.

Ron enjoyed his many trips to England and learning about his Mother Edith’s heritage as well as his past times with his parents, siblings, and Hogeland cousins. Ron cherished the time he spent with his Nana. He loved to tell stories of his childhood including his memories of hot tea, banana sandwiches, and many lemon drops. Ron also enjoyed working at Hogeland’s Market while socializing with customers and making them feel right at home. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Ron’s pride and joy were his four children, he relished in attending many of their events. According to him “40 years of bleacher butt was worth watching all of his children’s athletic accomplishments”.

Ron was very active in his community. He will be most remembered for his involvement in the 4-H Livestock Auction where he played an active role in buying animals and supporting local 4-Hers. Ron always enjoyed working in his yard, collecting antiques and his old cars. Ron never knew a stranger.
