Sutherland — Two Sutherland men were injured early Monday in an explosion. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Emergency Room at Great Plains Health in North Platte for a man suffering from a gunshot wound or an explosion. Deputies were told by 47 year old Phillip Compton that a friend of his was working on something metal at his residence and it exploded, causing the friend to possibly lose part or most of his hand.
Deputies went to a residence and contacted 55 year old Charles Tederman who told them he was messing around with a high-powered rifle shell and a piece of metal. Tederman said he dropped them both and the shell went off. Tederman received disabling injuries to his hand and eventually was transported to another hospital for treatment.
After obtaining a search warrant for Tederman’s residence, Deputies found several items that appeared to be explosive devices. Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Technicians were called in to remove the items. Several firearms and a large amount of ammunition were removed from the residence because Tederman is prohibited from having them. The investigation continues and charges are pending.
