Nebraska’s high winds & very dry conditions spawned several wildfires in the state Sunday afternoon.   Two fires reported in the southern Lancaster-northern Gage county areas. Firefighters were summoned from many area communities along with tractors with discs.   Residents in southwest Lancaster County were under orders to evacuate.  Authorities suggested that producers in the path of the fire should turn on their center pivots.

An Evacuation Center has been set up at Lincoln Southwest High School (7001. S 14th St. Lincoln NE) American Red Cross and Salvation Army are on scene.

In northeastern Buffalo County,  Shelton was initially paged for a fire call near 280th Road and Sodtown Road for a field fire.  Fire departments from Kearney to Cairo and north into Howard County have been summoned to assist.   Tractors and discs were also assisting.

A Red Flag Warning was effect for Sunday afternoon and evening for the National Weather Service’s Hastings forecast area.   Wind gusts into the upper 40s were expected into the evening.
